Diwali is celebrated as a festival of lights. It symbolizes many things in many cultures across India. However one common belief is that it is time to pray for the Blessing of Goddesses Lakshmi. In Indian Mythology , Lakshmi is celebrated as the Goddess of Wealth and Abundance.
So Diwali is thus a time to prepare our homes and hearts to welcome Wealth & Abundance into our life.
Let us imbibe the Five Ds during this Diwali to get to create wealth.
Deep Clean : Just as we deeply clean our homes before Diwali, so too we must have our investment portfolios. Over time we may have accumulated a lot of investments that are continuously underperforming or have lost money without a hope for immediate recovery, we need to get rid of these investments and then redeploy them into better ones that will continue to yield better returns. So it is time to take a deep assessment of your investment portfolio.
Dispel Darkness : Take stock of your portfolio performance in the last year( since last diwali) ,understand what investments have worked for you and what have not, using that knowledge, rebalance your portfolio for the year ahead. Enlighten yourself on your portfolio and the actions needed to generate the desired profit.
Diabetes : Too much of sweets without commensurate exercises ( Physical activity) will lead to health hazards like diabetes during festive seasons esp Diwali. Similarly chasing one type of asset even if it seems currently profitable can lead to losses later. So it is important to have a diversified portfolio of assets. Just as one needs to combine sweets with exercise, so too must one combine Equity with Debt to ensure that you are not overloaded with one asset thereby leading to investment hazards.
Devotion(Plan) :Visualize your wealth in the next few years and plan your investments towards reaching that goal. Nothing happens by accident, one must visualize where you would want to be and set your mind to actions that will get you there. Discipline in setting aside money regularly will be a key factor in enabling you to reach your financial goals.
Distribute: Diwali is a great time when we look at sharing what we have with those less fortunate than us. One of the secrets of wealthy people is their habit of giving. I firmly believe that you don’t have to be wealthy to share, but you need to share to become wealthy. This diwali pursues that habit of giving to a cause or people who deserve your support. Start small if you have not done it before. Giving is one of the most powerful emotions that drive purpose to our wealth creation. So plan your giving.
I am sure if each of us pursue these five Ds especially starting this Diwali, Lakshmi ( Wealth) will be by your side.
Wishing you and your family a very Happy and Prosperous Diwali.
